Life can be full of challenges: attempting to listen to the automated phone menu rattle off every option, but the one you want…… receiving the wrong food order after parking for 15 minutes in the so-called “drive-through” and attempting to find a route in Wichita without any road construction. Its at this point that I usually hear one of many voices form my childhood saying “when life gives you lemons, make lemon-aid.”
But what if the lemons caused you pain and interfered with your attempts to improve your life ? I had a friend whose lemons came in size double D. Although they weren’t always that way. They were once proportional and attractive. Somehow over time they grew disproportionately and became an unattractive and physically challenging burden. The immense size of her breasts made it impossible for her to run or participate in any aerobics, despite her industrial strength bra. Imagine attempting jumping jacks with two 8 pound sacks of sand hanging form your chest. She had headaches along with back, neck, and shoulder pain. The marks form her bra’s shoulder straps testified to the laws of gravity. Frustrated, but resourceful, she turned to the internet.
She learned about a procedure known a breast reduction. A week later she consulted Dr. James Rieger, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. He reviewed the procedure with her, examined her and showed her photos of the patients he had performed a breast reduction on. After receiving an approval form her insurance company she met with the doctor again to prepare for surgery. It was a same day procedure with immediate results.
No longer burdened by physical obstacles she returned to work in a week. Six weeks later she became a regular at the gym, where the only weights she lifts are to strengthen her, not weigh her down. She now looks as healthy as she feels. her experience was such a positive one that she encourage my younger sister to as least see what options were available for her. As it turned out my sister did not need a breast reduction , but a breast lift. A procedure that is very similar surgically , but there is little to no breast tissue removed.
A lift mainly removes excess loose skin. Apparently her breasts had migrated south without the encouragement of excess weight. The result of the cosmetic procedure were perky breast worthy of a Greek Stature. According to my sister her new look also added a spark of amour into her marriage, but this was an area where I preferred not to have details provided.
I suppose life’s lemons are inevitable and even costly, but all the money in the world can’t buy time. I’m always impressed with people who decide to make today the day they turn their lemons into lemon-aide.
